Life saving training for dental team at FHDC
The FHDC dental team is ready for life saving!
Behind the scenes at FHDC we are very focused on safety and each year our dentists, dental nurses and wider dental team team takes part in "Annual CPR & Medical Emergencies training for Dental Professionals". This years training was provided by First Aid Services. We are very fortunate at our dental practice to have the space to have our training in house. Not only does this mean that the team can train together, it also means that we can role play various medical emergency scenarios in our actual clinical environment and with our own equipment and systems.Whilst medical emergencies in dentistry are certainly no laughing matter, the team certainly had a a few giggles whilst role playing. This couldn't be helped with some of the equipment we had to use.Our Practice Manager kindly allowed herself to be the 'victim' and wore the special waistcoat that enables you to see how hard you have to slap someone on their back to dislodge a blockage in an airway.Below you can see the team performing CPR on 'dummies'. It is actually quite hard to keep the rhythm going for several minutes.During the session we also practised using defibrillators and it was reassuring to hear from Steven Hunter, Chief Instructor at First Aid Services, that our defibrillator is one of the best on the market. He said may small practices cut costs in this area and purchase purely on price rather than quality and effectiveness. Our view at FHDC has been to invest in safety.Whilst it is reassuring to know that our team has re-certified its CPR & Medical Emergencies Training and we had fun learning as a team together, we all keep our fingers crossed that we won't need to put our training in action. If you would like to see a new dentist or dental hygienist, you can register with us online here.
