A simple solution for missing teeth
Sometimes teeth are missing or have to be removed. The gaps left by missing teeth may cause issues when eating or can cause problems with your speech. Teeth on either side of the gap may also move into the space left behind causing the remaining teeth to become crooked.
The good news is that dentures, or ‘false teeth’, as they are commonly known are an easy solution available at Leeds Wellness Dental Implant & Aesthetic Care.

Denture solutions in Far Headingley

If you only have one or a few missing teeth a partial denture may be the ideal solution.
A partial denture is designed to fill in the gaps left by one or more missing teeth. It will be made of either a plastic, nylon or metal base or plate and have the required number of synthetic teeth attached to it. The denture will usually attach to some of your natural teeth with metal clasps. These hold the denture securely in place and allow the dentures to be easily unclipped and removed.

If all of your teeth (top, bottom or both) need replacing you may benefit from a full set of dentures. The basic fabric of a full denture is similar to a partial denture but instead of being attached to remaining teeth, it fits snugly over your gums and jawbone.
This type of denture can be fitted as soon as teeth have been removed for aesthetic benefits and to provide tooth functionality. It is worth noting that the gums and bone will alter in shape fairly quickly and the dentures will probably need relining or remaking after a few months.
Sometimes your gums may need to be left to heal and settle down in shape before dentures can be fitted. This can take several months.

Frequently asked questions about dentures
What are dentures?
Dentures are removable synthetic or false teeth made of acrylic, nylon or metal. They are individually designed to snugly over the gums to replace missing teeth and eliminate potential problems caused by gaps.
Do I have to wear my dentures at night?
It isn’t always necessary to remove your dentures at night, but doing so can allow your gums to rest as you sleep. If you remove your dentures, they should be kept moist, for example, in water or a polythene bag with some dampened cotton wool in it, or in a suitable overnight denture-cleaning solution. This will stop the denture material from drying out and changing shape.
Are dentures uncomfortable?
It may take time to adjust to wearing dentures, but with proper fitting, they should become comfortable. Any discomfort can usually be addressed by your dentist here in Leeds.
Will dentures affect my speech?
Initially, you may notice a slight change in speech. However, most people adjust quickly to speaking with dentures.
Will dentures shift in my mouth?
Well-fitted dentures should stay in place. If they feel loose or uncomfortable, a visit to your dentist is recommended for adjustments.
Can I eat normally with dentures?
It may take some time to adjust, but once you're comfortable, you can eat most foods. It's best to start with softer foods and gradually move to harder ones.
